Implementation Video - Part 4: Evidence and Pacing The Writing Academy, LLC. --- Slide 20: Assessment --- The guide explains how to use section assessments that combine four multiple-choice questions with a written application, along with the matching keys and rationales. Use these alongside everyday evidence: an explanation, a new spelling, an independent sentence, or a short written response. One brief assessment is a sample of learning, not proof that every related skill has been mastered. When an error appears, compare a correct and incorrect example, rehearse the reasoning, and check a fresh response. When students can apply the idea and explain it independently, reduce a support and check again. Keep supported practice and unassisted work distinguishable. The purpose is to identify what to teach next, not simply record a score. --- Slide 21: Support Participation --- Support can help students participate without taking over the thinking for them. The guide suggests options such as oral rehearsal, a neutral symbol legend, enlarged print, pre-cut pieces, and sentence frames. A frame such as The clue blank shows blank gives students a structure while leaving the evidence and explanation for them to supply. Record which supports were used. As students become more independent, try reducing a support and check whether they can still apply the skill. Adjust the amount of practice and the support provided while keeping the intended learning in view. These are classroom implementation supports, not a statement about testing accommodations. --- Slide 22: Calendar Options --- Schools do not all have the same number of instructional days. The guide provides pacing for one hundred sixty-five, one hundred eighty, and two hundred ten days. All three retain the thirty-six-module sequence. The shorter calendar combines designated sessions. The one-hundred-eighty-day calendar uses one module per week. The longer calendar provides additional practice and application opportunities. Read the numbered days as instructional days, not fixed dates. Place holidays, closures, and local interruptions outside the numbered sequence. Choose the pacing plan that fits your school, and continue coordinating this supplemental instruction with your existing core RLA calendar.
