Implementation Video - Part 2: Daily Implementation The Writing Academy, LLC. --- Slide 9: The Daily Model --- For the full implementation model described in the guide, plan for two distinct blocks. The first is a fifteen-minute cluster and module lesson, taught with the teacher guide, the matching student workbook, and the lesson slides. The second is a separate twenty-minute Standards block. This is where the Implementation Guide's skill practice and the Standards Slide Decks fit. These are not two names for the same lesson, and the Implementation Guide does not add a third daily block. When you combine an Implementation activity with Standards Slide Deck practice, adjust the activities within those twenty minutes. Protect the fifteen-minute writing lesson. Longer responses may need a locally planned continuation. --- Slide 10: Connected Lesson --- Let's look at the connected lesson from three perspectives. The teacher begins with the daily lesson in the Teacher Lesson Plan Guide. In the organization shown in this guide, Section 50 is the fifteen-minute lesson. The class follows the matching lesson slides. Students use the corresponding workbook materials rather than watching the screen without participating. Before teaching, review the lesson, open the slides, and prepare the student pages and any materials the activity requires. During instruction, move between modeling, student practice, and the response the lesson asks students to produce. Keeping the three resources aligned helps make the day's instruction easier to follow. --- Slide 11: Standards Slide Decks --- The Standards Slide Decks are different from the slides that accompany a module lesson. The collections described in the guide address spelling, editing, additional editing skills, revising, writing, evidence, and explanation. Each ten-slide deck is paired with a teacher script and a student tracking sheet. Choose practice based on student need. One option is four decks at about five minutes each. Another is one or two decks combined with a shorter Implementation activity inside the same twenty-minute block. When you need to shorten an activity, preserve retrieval and the exit check, and trim the opener or extension first. The goal is focused practice with evidence of student thinking. --- Slide 12: Skill Focuses --- The Implementation Guide organizes additional skill instruction into nine areas: spelling, grammar through Sentence Weather, morphemes, capitalization, punctuation, syntax, word choice, literary devices, and figurative language. These nine skill sections are different from the nine monthly clusters. The clusters organize the writing lessons. The Implementation sections organize focused work within the separate Standards block. The two work alongside each other. And a focus window is not permission to stop practicing a skill afterward. Spelling, editing, and revising continue through the year, with retrieval bringing earlier learning back into use. The aim is for students to carry these decisions into their compositions, not leave them on a practice page. --- Slide 13: Five-Day Practice Cycle --- Within the Standards block, the guide provides a repeatable five-day practice cycle. Begin with retrieval, a whole-group opener, modeling, and guided practice. Next, extend the concept and compare correct and incorrect choices. Then move into a partner or small-group activity, followed by an individual response. Students also have time for independent application, self-checking or conferencing, and a fresh check with feedback. Formal section assessments come after a section's final teaching cycle; other cycles use shorter fresh checks. This is the Implementation practice cycle, not a replacement for the module lesson sequence. Even during a lively game, keep a piece of evidence that shows what each student understands.
